On December 16, 1953, The U.S. Postal Service, recognized the great interest in the North Pole and awarded Santa's Workshop, North Pole, NY "Rural Postal Station" status.  Below is an envelope with the First Day Cover cancellation from the first day.

To this day mail is sent from the North Pole, home of Santa's Workshop with the North Pole, NY postal cancellation.  Postal service here at Santa's Workshop is open all year long.  Every guest who visits Santa's Workshop has the opportunity to visit and send mail from North Pole, NY with the postal cancellation shown on the right. 

However you do not need to visit Santa's Workshop or even drive to the North Pole to have your mail post marked North Pole, NY.  If you would like to have mail post marked North Pole, NY you can package your pre-stamped mail and send to:

Each year we offer a special holiday cancellation from Mid-November thru Mid-January.  All mail that is processed through this postal station during this time period receives the holiday cancellation which can be seen to the left unless otherwise specified in your package.  Due the the size and color of the special holiday cancellation there are some restrictions.  If the envelop is RED, GREEN, HIGH GLOSS, or contains objects that do not lay flat, it will receive the regular postal cancellation as above.  If the size of the mailing is too small to accommodate the special holiday cancellation it will also receive the regular postal cancellation. 

On September 30, 1995, North Pole, NY received yet another honor from the US Postal Service.  On this date, the Postmaster General, Marvin Runyon, unveiled the 1995 Holiday Contemporary stamps at Santa's Workshop, North Pole, NY in a special ceremony.  The stamps were designed by artist John Grossman and Laura Alders of California, they are displayed to the right.

Thousands flocked to Santa's Workshop, North Pole, NY for the First Day Issue stamps that were available only here on that day.  They were not available nationwide until October 2, 1995. 

Another job of the post office here at Santa's Workshop is to guarantee delivery of the bags stuffed full of letters from eager children across the globe to Santa.  Any piece of mail that is sent in the eastern United States that is labeled Santa Claus or North Pole usually makes its way to Santa here at Santa's Workshop, North Pole, NY.
