STAYING FOR A WEEKEND OR LONGER? THERE IS MORE TO DO!
Santa's Workshop is not the only reason to come to the Lake Placid Region! There is so much to see and do for the entire family, you most certainly can make a terrific summer vacation that will create memories for years to come!! Here are just a few of our favorites...
Area Attractions...
In the shadow of Whiteface Mountain, you can take a nature walk to view the Ausable River as it spills over ancient granite cliffs.
Up to five miles of hiking trails wander through and above the 150’ deep, 2-mile long chasm. Also available: scenic float tours, café, gift shop, camping, and the new Adventure Trail cable course for the more adventurous.
Revisit the "Miracle on Ice" or Sonja Henie's triumph, then discover the stories of many lesser known athletes of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics.
Whiteface may have made its name in winter, it has the highest vertical drop in the east, after all but it does summer pretty well too. The warmer months make Whiteface a natural setting for outdoor enthusiasts of all levels and ages, whether you're looking for an adrenaline rush or just an afternoon of beautiful views with your family. You can drive to the summit of Whiteface and take an elevator to the top, or ride a gondola to the peak of Little Whiteface.
The Refuge Center includes a one mile educational hiking trail, which also serves as a Public Fishing Access trail, and winds its way along the river and river sloughs, through forest and meadow. Our enclosures for education birds include Red-Tailed Hawks, Broad-Winged Hawks, Rough-Legged Hawks, Swainsons Hawks, Peregrine Falcons, Great Horned Owls, Barred Owls, Screech Owls, Turkey Vultures and Ravens. The refuge mascots are Cree, a wolf-hybrid, and Zeebie, a wolf pup.
Town Beach On Route 86 in Wilmington turn onto Bowman Lane and go to the end to park. You will find a sandy beach and picnic area filled with free activities including but not limiting to; swimming, boating and boat rental, volleyball, paddling trail, a pavilion, fishing, a playground, and public bathrooms. Most of this area has a universal design making it accessible for everyone. During July and August on Thursday nights there are free concerts.
Mountains or Ponds there is hiking for all ages
